The Novos Medios researcher took part in a meeting with Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, alongside a delegation of researchers funded through the ATRAE programme. During the event, which was also attended by the Minister for Science, Innovation and Universities, Treré shared the first findings of the DataECO project, being carried out at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, and presented a copy of his award-winning book Algorithms of Resistance: The Everyday Fight Against Platform Power.
The project examines digital activism and algorithmic resistance from an international perspective. It also explores the solutions and alternatives proposed by a range of actors, including corporations, institutions, policymakers and activists, in order to analyse how the limits of computation are constructed and negotiated in relation to planetary finitude. DataECO adopts a comparative, in-depth qualitative approach across Spain, Italy, Chile and Ireland, combining digital ethnography, interviews, and the analysis of archives and content.
DataECO is being developed within the Novos Medios research group and the Institute for Sustainable Development Studies (IDEGA) at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela.
