Journalist, PhD in History, and Emeritus Professor of Journalism at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Xosé López García has been awarded the Diego Bernal Prize 2027 by the Galician Association of Journalists (APG) in recognition of a professional career spanning nearly five decades in the field of communication.
Among the achievements highlighted by the jury are his contributions to research and to the education of generations of journalism professionals. The jury also recognized his leadership of the Novos Medios research group, which he coordinated from its creation in 1999 until July 2026, promoting numerous projects on digital journalism, media innovation, and the impact of technology on communication.
Throughout his career, Xosé López has led pioneering research on digital news media and digital transformation, published more than 150 scientific articles, and made a decisive contribution to consolidating communication and digital journalism studies in Galicia while achieving significant international impact.
The award ceremony will take place in Santiago de Compostela in January 2027, coinciding with the celebration of Saint Francis de Sales, the patron saint of journalists.
