Manuel Gago Mariño and Elena Vázquez Abal have just been recognized in the framework of the first edition of the University of Santiago de Compostela’s Science Communication Awards. Elena Vázquez won in the category aimed at highlighting a science communicator’s career, while Manuel Gago triumphed in the category that acknowledges projects or initiatives that creatively and effectively use new digital platforms and emerging formats to communicate science and attract new audiences.
The jury praised Manuel Gago’s pioneering spirit on social media, especially on Facebook, X, and Instagram, while also highlighting the innovative, cross-disciplinary, and transformative nature of the outreach activities carried out by this professor in the Department of Communication Sciences, director of Culturagalega.gal, and member of Novos Medios.
These awards, organized for the first time by USC, include a financial prize of €2,500 for each category and are supported by the Regional Ministry of Education, Science, Universities and Professional Training of the Xunta de Galicia and the newspaper La Voz de Galicia.
