From 9 to 13 November 2026, the Novos Medios research group will host Natasha Bachini, sociologist, accredited professor, and researcher at the University of São Paulo (USP). Specialising in computational methods applied to the study of political communication, hate speech, and electoral campaigns, her research explores the relationship between digital dynamics, electoral success, and democratic processes in Brazil.
Her visit comes at a particularly timely moment following the recent Brazilian elections. As part of her stay, she will deliver the seminar Hate Speech and Electoral Success: A Correlation? The seminar will take place on Monday, 9 November, at 1:00 p.m. in the Doctoral Studies Room of the Faculty of Communication Sciences (USC).
Those interested in attending can register through this form.
During her stay, Bachini will also collaborate with the Algorithmic Cultures, Data Ecologies and Synthetic Media research team, led by Emiliano Treré, contributing to a spin-off of the DataECO project focused on analysing data centres in Brazil, their social and environmental impacts, and potential community-based alternatives.
