César Fieiras publishes a book on innovation, artificial intelligence and media transformation

Novos Medios researcher César Fieiras Ceide has published the book IA, innovación y medios. 150 entrevistas para comprender el cambio, edited by Tirant Humanidades and available in open access. The volume examines how innovation, artificial intelligence and user experience are reshaping the media ecosystem, drawing on fieldwork carried out between 2019 and 2025. During this period, the author conducted more than 150 interviews with media professionals from over thirty countries, which form the main empirical corpus of the book. The volume includes a foreword by Charlie Beckett, Professor of Journalism in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Director of the Polis JournalismAI project.

Based on these voices, the book offers a comparative and applied reading of the changes currently affecting media organisations and of the decisions through which they are building their future. The corpus includes professionals linked to editorial leadership, innovation, strategy, product, technology, data and the everyday work of newsrooms.

The publication translates part of the author’s research trajectory into a narrative, accessible and knowledge-transfer-oriented format. This research had previously been developed through his doctoral thesis and in more than 100 academic contributions, including journal articles, book chapters and conference papers. The aim is to make this knowledge available to media professionals, Communication students and readers interested in the current transformation of the media, while maintaining academic rigour and an applied perspective.

The book addresses issues such as the innovation priorities of media companies, the organisational models of innovation, the profiles leading these processes, current uses of artificial intelligence, its effects on routines and professional roles, the governance of AI projects, implementation workflows, fully synthetic media, the ethical and legal limits of automation, personalisation, user experience, immersive environments and the relationship between media organisations and younger audiences.

The volume is framed within the research lines of Novos Medios on innovation, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, public service media, user experience and the evolution of the professional and organisational models of journalism.

The book is available in open access and can be downloaded at the following link:https://minerva.usc.gal/entities/publication/41f849c8-3e6c-4bab-8009-d8bc1afed8a7
